When your HVAC system starts heating or cooling, it takes a few minutes for the conditioned air to travel through the ductwork and reach the room where the SmartCocoon device is installed. If the SmartCocoon fan were to start immediately, it could push unconditioned air into the room, which may actually make the room feel colder during the winter or warmer during the summer.
To prevent this, SmartCocoon continuously monitors the air temperature at the vent and only begins boosting airflow once the air is warm or cool enough to have a meaningful impact on the room's comfort.
A similar process occurs when the HVAC system turns off. Even though the furnace or air conditioner has stopped running, there is often still conditioned air remaining in the ductwork. SmartCocoon can continue operating for a short period to capture and deliver this remaining conditioned air into the room, helping bring the room closer to the desired temperature.
