The thickness of the device is 1.3" so if there is 1" clearance under the grill it won't fit but if it is 2" there is a great chance that it works.
If you use the hanging brackets, you need 2.25" plus 1.3" clearance.
But in most cases, especially if the vent is not very deep, you do not need to use the hanging brackets
